Digital Nuremberg

Digital Projects, Hotspots and Events

Nuremberg is going digital – bringing benefits for people and businesses alike. Digitalisation makes many things easier and offers huge opportunities for new start-ups. For many years, Nuremberg has promoted the creation of technology-oriented organisations and start-ups. This support is one of the factors that has given the city a head start in all digital things, alongside a vibrant and innovative digital scene, as reflected in a rich selection of projects and events.

Digital Top 5: Nuremberg’s foremost digital projects

The City of Nuremberg has already done a great deal to make its inhabitants’ daily lives easier with digital services. Its Mein.Nürnberg.de website, for example, has slashed waiting times for many official appointments and in many cases eliminated the need for citizens to attend in person altogether. People with an immigration background can now obtain comprehensive advice about the city’s services using the Integreat app, while the ZOLLHOF - Tech Incubator service helps entrepreneurs kick-start their businesses.
Air travellers seeking flight and airport information can simply ask Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, developed by Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg.
Meanwhile, the VAG public transport system has also been improved thanks to free wifi and a ticket-sharing app that helps match up passengers to get free rides.

Digital meeting points: Where to find the Nuremberg scene

Innovation and creativity are the strongest drivers behind Nuremberg’s growing appeal as a base for business. With this in mind, the City of Nuremberg has set up meeting points to boost networking and innovation. Leading the way are the ZOLLHOF - Tech Incubator, a central hub for the region’s high-tech start-ups and corporate innovators, the JOSEPHS® innovation laboratory where companies can actively collaborate on product development and testing, and the Test and Application Center L.I.N.K. at the city’s Fraunhofer Institute.
At the FabLab, creatives from many different areas come together to work on their technical projects, while tollwerkstatt is a meeting place for the creative, IT and open source communities.
Nuremberg offers affordable coworking space for new start-ups through its Startup.Digital.Nürnberg scheme, which also provides free business advice.
Members of the city’s youngest generation, its digital natives, are also being encouraged to embrace new media and the digital world. The Parabol media centre is just one facility, with CoderDojo programming clubs for kids and other offerings through the Portal Digital initiative.

    Digital events: Events in Nuremberg

Nuremberg’s digital scene is extremely active, as also evidenced by the continuing rise in the number of events. The city’s calendar is packed with international trade fairs and conferences, bootcamps, workshops and festivals.
