1995 Award Ceremony
The Award Ceremony of the first Nuremberg International Human Rights Award took place on September 17, 1995. The Nuremberg International Human Rights Award honoured Sergej Kovalev for his courageous criticsm of violations of Human Rights in the former Soviet Union.
The tribute to the prizewinner was held by Václav Havel, former president of the Czech Republic and co-founder of the civil rights movements Charta 77.
José Ayala Lasso, former High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, delivered the words of greeting.
