2001 Award Ceremony
The 4th presentation of the 2001 Nuremberg International Human Rights Award took place on September 16, 2001 in Nuremberg Opera House. The International Human Rights Award honoured Bischop Samuel Ruíz García (Mexico) for his struggle for the rights of indigenous peoples.
The tribute to the prizewinner was held by Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Argentinian Civil Rights Activist and Laureate of the Nobel Prize for Peace.
Bruno Schnell, editor and publisher of the Nürnberger Nachrichten and Nürnberger Zeitung donated the award money.
