2017 Peace Table
Although the Peace Table had to take place without the prizewinners, thousands of citizens once again gathered at Nuremberg's Kornmarkt on September 24, 2017 to demonstrate their solidarity with the "Caesar" group.
Discussing with prominent guests
French journalist Garance Le Caisne, who accepted the award on behalf of the "Caesar" group, discussed her work and the situation of the award winners with interested parties. Jury members and many people who are actively involved in human rights sought out the discussion, which was moderated by students from Hans-Sachs-Gymnasium at the "talking tables".
Prominent guests such as the CEO of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth, the former Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Special Court for Sierra Leone, Stephen Rapp, and Barbara Lochbihler, Member of the European Parliament, answered the students' questions.
At the same time, interested people were able to visit the documentation "Caesar - Archivist of Death" in the KreisGalerie, which had compiled a careful selection of Caesar's photographs with detailed information on the conflict in Syria.
Impressions of the 2017 Peace Table
Following the peace table, Garance Le Caisne and Kenneth Roth, moderated by Henrike Claussen, discussed the public treatment of the "Caesar" photographs in the Caritas Pirckheimer House. They discussed how to strike a balance between public interest, responsible presentation for viewers and dignified treatment of the victims.
