The City of Nuremberg sees it as one of its central tasks to maintain cohesion in an increasingly diverse society, while mediating between individual interests and preventing marginalisation.
An important basis for municipal action is human rights, the active realisation of which the City of Nuremberg has committed itself to in its mission statement due to its special historical responsibility.
The realisation of an urban society based on solidarity is measured by how it treats all citizens. This also includes those who do not yet have long and continuous roots in the city or who are looking for a new home as a result of flight and displacement. The more openly a city deals with the diversity of its citizens, the better it will be able to meet the challenges of a globalised context.
As part of its general mission statement, the City of Nuremberg adopted its first integration policy guidelines in 2004. These are updated to take account of social developments. On 25 July 2018, the City Council adopted the current version of the guidelines.
