‘For a sustainable and diverse urban society!’
On Saturday, 23 November 2024, the Nuremberg Integration Conference took place for the ninth time in the Kulturwerkstatt Auf AEG from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Under the title ‘For a sustainable and diverse urban society!’, 2nd Mayor Prof Dr Julia Lehner opened the event. Moderator Ella Schindler led through the day, which focussed on the future topic of sustainability in a diversity-sensitive manner. The focus was not only on the ecological, but also the social significance of sustainability and thus social cohesion in times of crisis.
Prof. Dr Herbert Brücker, Head of the ‘Migration, Integration and International Labour Market Research’ research area at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and Professor of Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, gave the keynote speech. He is also Director of the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM).
His presentation outlined how migration to Germany is likely to develop in the coming decades, what opportunities and challenges this presents for Germany as a country of immigration and what conclusions can be drawn for a sustainable immigration and integration policy.
After the subsequent panel discussion, the conference participants had the opportunity to take a closer look at topics such as ‘Climate change and migration’ in parallel workshops in the afternoon.
